A major rescue operation was launched last night following reports to the police that a person had entered the water from Douglas Promenade.
Douglas RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew members received the call at around 8.30 and swiftly launched an all-weather vessel to investigate.
A thorough search of the area using lights and parachute flares produced no results, and just as the crew were about to stand down it was reported that a man fitting the initial description had been located safe and well.
Douglas lifeboat returned to station, was washed down, refueled and reported ready again for service just before 10.00pm.
