A significant amount of personal data was discovered in plain view dumped in a skip in Douglas earlier this week.
Numerous pedestrians alerted the Data Protection Supervisor to the skip, which was situated in a lay-by on Belmont Terrace.
Upon inspection hundreds of clients' files were found lying in the open waste unit, with it apparent they’d been there overnight.
A sample file recovered contained "Know Your Customer" information including photocopies of passports and bank statements.
Supervisor Ian MacDonald says the documents have now been destroyed but that it serves as a warning:
