Government expects swift loan repayment

Government expects most student loans to be repaid shortly after graduation once full fee support ends next year.

If plans are approved by Tynwald, Island students will have to contribute a minimum of £2,500 towards their university tuition fees each year.

The Department of Education and Children confirmed yesterday that students, not their parents, will be solely liable for their loans.

Repayment would begin once the graduate starts earning £21,000.
