Republicans criticise government

A leading republican has criticised the government for creating 'blockers' which prevent potential Mec Vannin members from sitting in Tynwald.

The party was formed 50 years ago and its primary objective is to gain sovereign independence for the Isle of Man.

This would means cutting all constitutional ties with the British government and removing the Queen as head of state, electing a Manx president in her place instead.

Mark Kermode is the party's chairman. He says even if numerous Mec Vannin candidates were successful, they couldn't take their seats in government:
