An external review team from the NHS has visited Noble’s Hospital to review the bowel surgery service.
The team from the North East of England is trying to determine why there has been a higher than average number of patients suffering complications.
Noble’s Hospital suspended the surgery last month and is now waiting for recommendations and a report before it can restart.
In the UK it’s estimated that 10 per cent of patients will experience complications.
Medical director Stephen Upsdell says compared to this the Island’s figures aren’t alarmingly high:
