DEFA to step up random checks on scallop trawlers

Fri, 14 Dec 2012

A random factory inspection this week revealed a significant amount of undersized queenies are being landed into the Isle of Man.

Many of the queenies were below the minimum landings size of 50mm, and were simply too poor to process.

It’s led to a stern warning from Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne.

He has instructed his officers to step up the random checks, saying he will not tolerate the carriage or landing of this rubbish through Manx Territorial Waters: play media file below
