News that bus drivers will strike for three days next week has been met angrily by many members of the public.
It was announced yesterday that more than 70 workers will walk-out next Thursday, Friday and Saturday following a long-running dispute over terms and conditions.
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure wants to save £300,000 a year and plans to do this partly by scrapping drivers’ paid lunch breaks.
With schools still open, late night Christmas shopping and party goers who want to leave the car at home, it’s a busy time of year for the buses.
Many people took social media sites to criticise the strike action.
On the Energy FM Facebook page Moose, Scott and Samantha say they don’t think drivers should get paid lunch breaks anyway.
Helen and Tori say the drivers are selfish and ask how elderly people and others who don’t drive are meant to get around.
Bobby Morton from the Unite Union says drivers don’t want to strike and the issue isn’t just about their paid lunch hours:
