Over 200 prosecuted for defective vehicles

More than 200 people have been prosecuted over the last three years for having defective vehicles.

The figure was revealed in a written answer to a Tynwald question from MLC Alex Downie.

211 people were taken to court for a total of 320 different offences.

More than half of the prosecutions were for defective tyres, 56 were for broken lights and 67 were for other faults that caused vehicles not to be roadworthy.

The question came as the Manx Government considers introducing M.O.T style vehicle tests.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson says they're in the process of consulting the public.
