Mon, 03 Dec 2012

The Water and Sewerage Authority has confirmed one of its workers was killed in an accident in Peel this morning.

The man in his 50s was excavating to replace a supply pipe near to the former Creg Malin Hotel when a wall collapsed.

The victim's name won't be released until his next of kin have been notified.

Chairman John Houghton, Vice Chairman Bill Henderson and Chief Executive Peter Winstanley visited the scene of the accident earlier to view the site and to offer support to the workforce.

Health and safety officials and emergency services have been working at the scene today.

The roads in the area have now reopened.

A public meeting due to take place in Peel tonight to discuss plans for new sewage treatment works has now been cancelled.
