Drugs headed for the Island intercepted at Heysham Port

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Criminals looking to smuggle drugs to the Isle of Man have been warned that they are being watched.

It follows the discovery on Friday of £60,000 worth of cannabis in a car at Heysham Port which was headed for Douglas.

Sniffer dogs alerted police to the 60 nine ounce bars, which were found in a spare tyre, following a routine search of the vehicle.

40-year-old Darren Clayton from Liverpool was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply and appeared before Lancaster Magistrates Court yesterday.

Lancashire Police say they work with law enforcement agencies on both sides of the water to provide an effective deterrent to cross border crime.
