Large fire damages property in the north

Mon, 19 Nov 2012

Fire crews from Ramsey and Kirk Michael spent over three hours tackling a house fire in Carrick Park on Saturday night.

They were called to the bungalow at 6pm where firefighters found  a blaze in the roof space of the property.

Officers, wearing breathing apparatus, removed the roof tiles to gain access and extinguished the fire before spending two hours cooling hot spots and removing damaged items.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says it traced the fire to the flue of a wood burning stove.

The incident could have been much worse as an LPG cylinder was also discovered in the loft but luckily was not involved in the fire.

No one was hurt although extensive damage was caused to the roof and hallway following a ceiling collapse.
