More statistics needed to chart Island's alcohol problems

A recent survey has put the North West of England, including the Isle of Man, at the top of a table charting alcohol related liver deaths.

The study carried out by the North West Public Health Observatory also showed that rates of Hepatitis C among injecting drug users remains highest in this region.

As it stands there are no definitive statistics that show the extent of the Island’s drink and drug problems.

Shelly Stanley from the Drug and Alcohol Service Helpline, DASH, says the organisation would greatly benefit from having an accurate set of results from which to inform their work:
