Bus driver strike action draws closer

The chance of a bus strike is one step closer after it was confirmed that drivers will be balloted over taking part in the disruptive course of action.

It’s the next step in a long running argument over changes to pay and terms and conditions.

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure is trying to make savings of £300,000 – which equates to around £3,000 per driver – by cutting paid lunch breaks.

Unite the Union has accused the government of being intent on aggressively slicing the terms and conditions of members.

Eric Holmes from the organisation says the situation has intensified after drivers took forward a new proposal which was refused:
