Special unit sought for Isle of Man College

Fri, 05 Oct 2012

In the first sitting back of the new political year Tynwald will be asked to support the creation for a brand new special needs unit at the Isle of Man College.

In one of his first acts since taking up the ministerial position Tim Crookall will seek the Court’s backing to spend £1,733,000 on the construction of the facility.

The two story unit would accommodate students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.

It would enable The College to take on more students, as it stands they can only cater for around a dozen students.

The new block would be able to cater for 30 students aged 16 and up; it would promote inclusion as well as offering a dedicated facility for life skills programmes.

As it stands Tynwald has already approved the cost of £150,000 for the pre-contract enabling work.
