The exact location of this morning’s significant fire has been confirmed as a double garage workshop in the Riverside Industrial Estate.
Fire crews were mobilised to the site following reports of a smell of burning in the area of Hills Meadow at 02.34am.
The property was found to be well alight, with a number of potential risks to the unit with regards to the equipment that could have been inside.
Their suspicions were confirmed when it was revealed that acetylene cutting equipment was onsite.
Their cylinders can explode once heated; causing a 25m fireball, in light of this a 200m exclusion zone was set up.
The fire was eventually brought under control by 4.10am following expert help from Manx Gas, a procedure of cooling the cylinders was then commenced.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, the incident is currently subject to a fire investigation with Police and Fire Investigators still on scene.
