The Steam Packet has blamed a “seized” unit on one of the Ben-my-Chree’s engines for major delays yesterday.

The ship was forced to turn back after leaving for Heysham at 8.40am yesterday following the technical problem.

That sailing was then cancelled as was the following journey at 2.15pm.

The Steam Packet says the Master made the decision to come back to Douglas rather than try and shut down the engine and enter Heysham with reduced manoeuvring power.

Affected passengers were offered a partial refund and were moved onto the Manannan or to the evening sailing on the Ben-my-Chree.
