With summer now officially over it’s been another poor season for basking shark sightings.
It marks the second consecutive year of a downturn in figures.
This has been attributed once again to the bad weather, with this summer going on record as the wettest since records began.
It’s thought the sharks when in Manx waters, confided to the deep waters and out of sight.
Although there were a flurry of sightings earlier in August the other summer months remained quiet.
Despite this the Manx Basking Shark Watch was still able to conduct some valuable research, as we found out when we spoke to Eleanor Stone of the Wildlife Trust:
