After a recent spate of incidents involving kayaks a call has gone out for safe and responsible use of the easy to use mini vessels.
On three occasions in a relatively short space of time coastguard and lifeboat teams have been called out to the aid of young people who have got into difficulty after being pulled out to sea.
Each time it's resulted in a safe and swift rescue but the message from the rescue response teams is not to underestimate the sea and to treat it with respect.
Keirron Tastagh runs Adventurous Experiences and specialises in taking people out kayaking in a safe and controlled environment.
He says one of the main problems is that young people are often embarking on their adventures without the relevant information needed to ensure a safe kayaking session:
