A unit in the Southlands care facility in Port Erin which looks after elderly and mentally infirm people is closing due to staff shortages.
Families of residents were called into a meeting yesterday afternoon to meet Social Care bosses who advised them of the development.
It means eight residents on the Gansey Unit will be moved to the EMI facility at Thie Meanagh in Douglas for at least a month.
Three registered nurses and three support staff are required to keep the unit open – positions the department has been trying to fill since the start of this year.
