Warning over current bank scam

Thu, 09 Aug 2012

Members of the public are once again being warned to be on their guard after a local resident lost hundreds of pounds in a bank scam.

The woman was targeted by conmen who told her they were calling from her bank as there had been fraudulent activity on her account.

A series of phone calls and text messages followed during which time the scammers managed to obtain enough information to access the victim’s account and take over £400.

Anyone who receives a worrying call from their bank is advised to take the person’s name and ring them back on a number that you look up in the phone book – not the number which they give you as it could easily be bogus.

The Office of Fair Trading says anyone who thinks they have been targeted should contact the police immediately.
