Parking fine increase

Tue, 24 Jul 2012

The price of a parking fine is to rise to £60.

The Department of Infrastructure is announcing a 50% increase in fixed penalties for parking offences.

A new fixed penalty of £120 is also being introduced for people who are caught parking illegallly in disabled spaces.

In the two years up until March 2011, traffic wardens on the Island handed out over 30,000 tickets, earning the government Treasury around £1.1m.

Fixed penalties were last increased in 2002.

The DoI says this rise is 'broadly in line with inflation.'

The new rates will come in on 1st August.
