The Office of Fair Trading says it will be taking action against people selling heavily discounted but highly dangerous memory foam mattresses.
Last week the OFT issued a warning to the public advising them not to purchase bargain mattresses as they don’t meet safety standards.
Enforcement officers bought two from a trader selling from a van and sent them away for testing where they failed an ignitability test.
It’s thought that the mattresses are being sold by people trading from vans and through local classifieds sections.
OFT Chief Officer Mike Ball said action would be taken against the people responsible:
