"Big jump" for students contributing to post graduate courses

The Finance Director for the Department of Education and Children has said he realises it is a “big jump” for students who will be forced to contribute more towards post graduate courses.

Earlier this year the department revealed that students who start courses from September onwards will be asked to pay £5,000 towards their fees – which is £4,000 more than at present.

To help students a new agreement has been finalised with Isle of Man Bank which will offer loans at three per cent over the base rate with repayments starting a year after graduation.

Ashley Halsall says the department simply couldn’t afford to support students in this way anymore:
