Peter Karran has been sacked from the Council of Ministers and removed from the Department of Education and Children.
It follows yesterday’s sitting of Tynwald where Mr Karran strongly opposed the Council of Minister’s plans to invest £24 million of public money into the film industry.
Today Chief Minister Allan Bell said there was no alternative option than to remove Mr Karran.
He said it was not a decision he had taken lightly but government had established rules on the collective responsibility expected of all Ministers.
Mr Bell said Mr Karran had worked hard as Minister for Education but said it was disappointing he could no longer accept the responsibilities that go alongside.
Treasury Minister Eddie Teare will be delegated responsibility for the department until a new Minister can be appointed.
