The Department of Health has issued a reminder to the public about the importance of taking out travel insurance.
Each year people from the Island are taken ill or injured in Europe or further afield – but often mistakenly think they are covered for their treatment.
Some countries charge for ambulances and paramedics as well as hospital fees and GP appointments.
The cost of being transferred to the Island by air ambulance can reach £20,000.
Director of Healthcare Delivery, Norman McGregor Edwards said they’re unable to help people who haven’t taken out an insurance policy:
