DEFA hopeful that Tesco and IOM Meats can find a solution soon

Fri, 11 May 2012

The DEFA Minister is hopeful that progress is being made to get Manx meat back on the shelves in Tesco.

The supermarket stopped selling it in February after concerns over the documentation process and a metal detector at the Island's abattoir.

Tesco inspectors were back on the Island last week.

Products won't be going on sale in the store immediately but the meat plant believes it's come a step closer and says it was a positive visit.

Isle of Man Meats has suffered financial difficulties in recent years and the company says limited resources mean the changes needed will take a little more time.

Phil Gawne believes the meat industry is starting to feel the pinch now but is optimistic following today's statement.[play media file below]
