Police are investigating after £600 due to be donated to charity was stolen in Port St Mary.
£540 in cash and a £60 cheque were taken from a white Peugeot van parked outside the lifeboat station on Lime Street between 9.30 and 11.30 on Monday morning.
The money had been collected by the owner of the van at his birthday party at the weekend, and was going to be given to the RNLI.
Officers say this type of theft is never acceptable, but this incident is made worse given the intended use of the money.
They add that the funds were donated in good faith to help the lifeboat crew in their dangerous work, not to line the pockets of a thief.
Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact Port Erin Police Station.
