The Department of Infrastructure says it will strongly argue for current ferry routes to be kept as plans are developed for the Walney wind farm extension.
The proposed further development of the site off the Barrow coast threatens Steam Packet routes.
The company warns diversions would lead to increased journey times, fuel consumption and prices.
The DoI says it's cooperating closely with the Steam Packet to assess the scale of any adverse impacts.
Director of Harbours Captain Mike Brew says discussions and consultations with wind farm developers have begun and submissions are being made.[play media file below]
