Fishermen are being asked to be careful not to leave their gear in the shipping lanes in and out of Douglas.
The Department of Infrastructure says a number of vessels have recently ingested fishing gear or got it tangled in their propellers whilst coming in or out of the harbour.
The Department is bringing in restricted areas on the approaches to all harbours.
The draft restricted areas are currently being drawn up.
Once the restricted areas are agreed, no fishing gear will be permitted within them.
In the meantime, potting fishermen are asked not to lay gear in approaches to any harbour.
