MEF confirms library funding from PokerStars

Mon, 02 Apr 2012

It's looking like the family library and the mobile library will be saved from closure.

The non-profit Manx Education Foundation has confirmed it's secured private sector funding from PokerStars.

The company would fund the libraries for the next three years.

Staff and current service levels would be maintained.

A provisional agreement has been reached with the Department of Education and Children but the deal has not yet been finalised.

The libraries are due to close because of education cutbacks.

Executive Director of the MEF David Butterworth acknowledges there has been some criticism over the funding coming from a gambling firm.

However, he says there'll be no branding and it's not an advertising ploy.[play media file below]
