Mark Cavendish and Aalin George win top prizes at sports awards

Isle of Man Sportsman of the Year Mark Cavendish and Sportswoman of the Year Aalin George

World champion cyclist Mark Cavendish and teenage archer Aalin George were named Sportsman and Woman of the year at the Isle of Man Bank Sports Awards last night.

Cav was crowned road race world champion and claimed the green jersey in the Tour de France over the last 12 months, whilst Aalin - who also celebrated her 16th birthday yesterday - is the Great Britain Junior Archer of the Year.

Swimmers Charlotte Atkinson and Grant Halsall picked up the under 21 sportsman and woman awards.

The Isle of Man Women's Hockey squad was awarded Team of the Year, whilst their coach John Whiting was named coach of the year.

There were also awards for Zoe Lambie, Bryan Sharp, Victoria Karran and Conor Cummins.
