Mechanical fault caused crash landing

A report has been published into a crash landing at Ronaldsway Airport earlier this month.

An aircraft operated by Links Air for Manx2 was arriving in the Island from Leeds Bradford, when the right-hand undercarriage collapsed.

The Jetstream 31 slid off the runway and came to rest on the grass.

Luckily, the 14 people onboard were unhurt.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch report blames a crack in part of the landing gear on the right-hand side of the aircraft.

The corrosion in the metal wasn't noticed during a visual inspection eleven days before the crash.

It may also have also been present when the landing gear was tested 10 months before.

The AAIB recommends the European Aviation Safety Agency reviews the effectiveness of an airworthiness directive in identifying cracks in the landing gear of this type of aircraft.
