Work permits can now be renewed online

Employers can now renew work permits for their staff online.

The Department of Economic Development has launched an online work permit database, giving businesses the ability to renew, change or cancel permits over the internet.

Previously, such actions would have to be sent in the post.

Organisations must register for the online services on the Government's website, and then they'll receive a log of all the work permits currently registered with their business.

The system also allows employers to sort their permits, allowing them to see which will need renewing next, and how long each employee has held a permit for.

In January, 90% of work permits were processed within 10 days, but the DED hopes the new online system will improve this further.
