Government to make it harder to qualify for university grant

Fri, 09 Mar 2012

The government is planning to make it slightly tougher to qualify for a university grant from September 2013.

The number of UCAS points needed at A-level is to go up from 160 to 200.

From September 2014, this will need to include a C grade.

The changes will be put before Tynwald this month.

The new regulations would also see students who take courses of four years or longer have to contribute £5,000 from the fourth year.

At the moment, they're asked to put £1,000 towards fees on a means tested basis.

Director of Education Martin Barrow says Manx students are still far better off than their UK counterparts.[Play media file below]
