An Onchan construction firm has been fined £4,000 for breaching health and safety laws and endangering the public.
Corrigan Construction Limited pleaded guilty to five breaches.
The offences took place in April last year when the firm was contracted to remove a kitchen.
The boss of the company disconnected a gas appliance but wasn't qualified to do so and failed to cap or seal the open pipe work.
It resulted in the occupants and their neighbours being exposed to the risk of a gas leak or explosion.
The Health and Safety Inspectorate says the case highlights the danger of unqualified tradesmen carrying out work that they haven't been trained to do.
A similar incident in the UK two years ago led to an explosion which injured 15 people.
Health and Safety Officials say they hope this case serves as a warning.
