Fake Manx notes used in Belfast

Mon, 27 Feb 2012

Counterfeit Manx banknotes are reported to be flooding parts of Belfast.

Shopkeepers there have been warned to be on the lookout for the fake £20 notes, which go undetected by pens and machines designed to flag up forgeries.

It’s said £500 worth of the forged money can be bought on the black market there for £100.

In the past, many shops and businesses in Northern Ireland have been willing to take Manx notes and coins, but some may now change their policies in light of the counterfeit scam.
