A budget cut for the Department of Home Affairs means it might not be possible to keep all police stations on the Island open.

The DHA has seen its funds for the coming year reduced by almost £700,000, but rising costs means savings of £1.3m must be found.

It's expected there'll be reductions in front line services and staff.

Fire safety in the community may also have to be reduced.

The department is looking at the criminal justice system to see whether more emphasis can be placed on community sentences rather than custodial ones.

Minister Juan Watterson says it's not easy to provide policing, the fire service, prison, probation and communications infrastructure for £1 per person per day.
