MLC quits DEC in row over Pre School provision

The first crack has appeared in the 'Government of National Unity.'

Dudley Butt has quit his role in the Department of Education and Children.

The MLC criticised Minister Peter Karran during a heated debate in Tynwald yesterday and said that other options were available.

Mr Butt said members of the DEC had objected at every stage to the planned cutbacks and laid all the blame at the door of Mr Karran.

He went on to say that he knew nothing of proposals to replace the pre school provision as this had not been discussed with the DEC political Members.

Interjecting, the Minister hit back and accused him of leaking news of the spending cuts to the media which Mr Butt denied.

Afterwards the MLC confirmed he no longer wishes to continue with his department membership.
