Public spending reduced by £35m

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

Public spending for the next financial year has been reduced by £35 million pounds.

It's budget day on the Isle of Man and although it's been announced there'll be no change to income tax and personal allowances, it's not yet know where all government departments will be making their cuts.

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson has indicated that money will be saved on staffing in his department.

Infrastructure Minister David Cretney says his department has reduced over time to save 355,000 pounds and eliminated vacant posts saving £420,000.

The airport budget has been frozen and there'll be a reduction in the headcount there.

The Minister also revealed his department is launching a consultation into a change of planning policy.[Play media file below]
