Union wants CoMin to look elsewhere for savings

Mon, 20 Feb 2012

The union who's members will be affected by cuts to education is calling for the Council of Ministers to look elsewhere within Government for savings

Prospect says it can't see how the changes will be good for the economy in the long term.

The organisation says the Island already has a worrying teacher to pupil ratio after the DEC reduced teacher numbers.

It was confirmed last week that preschool, library services and a number of other areas are to be cut.

The trade union says a number of groups rely on the library services including the elderly, disabled and housebound.

The DEC says it will try to redeploy the staff affected where possible.
