Family sues after fatal plane crash

Mon, 13 Feb 2012

The family of a co-pilot killed in the plane crash at Cork Airport are to sue two companies involved in operating the flight and leasing the aircraft.

27 year old Andrew Cantle from Sunderland was one of six people who died in the accident last February.

Mr Cantle's girlfriend and parents are taking action against air operator Flightline BCN and Airlada, which leased the plane and crew.

Island-based ticketing agent Manx2 isn't being sued by the family, who are reported to be looking for a substantial seven-figure claim, as they believe the accident was avoidable.

The plane was making its third attempt to land in thick fog when one of the wing tips touched the ground, causing it to flip over.

Investigators released an interim report last week which didn't apportion blame to any one factor.

Investigations into the crash continue.
