330 rental properties in breach of fire regulations

Mon, 30 Jan 2012

Landlords of rental properties who fail to rectify safety issues flagged up by the Fire Service will be prosecuted.

That's according to Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson.

Mr Watterson has confirmed that as of two months ago, around 330 properties on the Island were found to be in breach of fire regulations when they were inspected.

The Minister points out that the figures include minor technical breaches and that not all of the buildings are currently occupied.

After a visit from fire inspectors, landlords are given chances to put right any safety issues.

If work isn't carried out further down the line, the case is passed to the Attorney General for prosecution.

Mr Watterson has advice for anyone who's worried about fire regulations.[play media file below]
