The Office of Fair Trading says it's learnt of a new inheritance scam doing the rounds.
People have been receiving letters or emails claiming to be from private investment managers telling them they've inherited money from a relative who's died.
Personal details are requested and people may be asked for money to be sent to cover expenses.
The OFT says genuine probate researchers don't make contact by email - they usually speak to you in person or by telephone.
Anyone who receives an email about inheritance is advised to discuss it with friends, relatives or the OFT before getting involved.
