Government wage bill to be cut by £30m

Mon, 23 Jan 2012

The Isle of Man Government plans to slash £30m from its wage bill over the next three to four years.

The Chief Minister has issued a stark warning today that the Island must face up to some difficult changes if we're to overcome current challenges.

Allan Bell says the top priorities are rebalancing public finances and growing the economy, while protecting the vulnerable.

Reducing the public sector salary bill by 10% is one of the steps that will be taken.

Mr Bell says they're still working to decide how this will be achieved.[play media file below]

The Chief Minister also says social benefits will be reviewed.

He says they want to make sure those in need get all the support government can provide and that people who are abusing the system are weeded out.[play media file below]
