Ramsey Commissioners says a new scheme to fund the refurbishing of kitchens in local authority housing prevents more pressure being added to its already stretched maintenance budget.
The town's commissioners say they've received a number of enquiries since the kitchen framework agreement with the Department of Social Care began.
Tenants who had replaced kitchen units at their own expense raised questions over the average nine thousand pounds spent on each refurbishment.
However, the commissioners say the programme includes remedial and structural work, and in some cases demolition of chimney breasts, rewiring and plumbing.
The board says considerable pressure would be placed on its general maintenance fund without the agreement.
The local authority believes the programme gives long term durability and value for money.
