Manx National Heritage is set to inherit around £1.2m after a court ruling over a Colby man's will.
Donald Collister died in 2007 at the age of 93.
He wanted the money from his estate to be used fund a museum on his land in the village.
However, the court learned it was unlikely 'The Collister Heritage Centre and Museum' would get planning permission.
Mr Collister didn't say in his will what should be done if this was the case.
There had been an idea that the money could be used to fund a community centre elsewhere in Colby in partnership with the local commissioners.
However, the High Bailiff ruled that this hadn't been specified as an alternative by Mr Collister, who had said any leftover money should go to Manx National Heritage.
It was ruled that as the centre couldn't be built, all the funds should go to MNH.
