The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is renewing a warning against hiring cold callers offering IT repairs.
The OFT says its recently been contacted by Manx residents who've received calls claiming to be from Microsoft or Windows Maintenance.
In each case, the conversation quickly turned to fees for the service.
None of those who contacted the OFT agreed to pay for the repairs.
Legitimate companies may contact customers by telephone, but the OFT says checks should be carried out to ensure the caller is genuine before handing over money, such as an Internet search or checking the companies registry.
