The Manx public is being warned of rogue traders seeking work following the recent bad weather on the Island.
The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading says traders may knock on the door seeking work following high winds recently.
The OFT warns that reputable workmen are likely to be very busy and that those turning up on the doorstep could complete work to a poor standard or not at all.
To avoid being ripped off, the organisation recommends those seeking work ask for a written quotation which cannot be altered by the trader once agreed, before any work is carried out.
Householders are also advised that they can contact the OFT, check the company's registry and ask for references to make sure the traders are reputable.
More details and advice are available from the OFT's website or Lord Street offices
