Manx police to look at outcome of drug-driving study

Thu, 05 Jan 2012

The Isle of Man Constabulary would take a serious look at changing drug-driving laws if the UK introduces new legislation.

The UK Government has set up a study to see if motorists could be set limits for illegal drugs in the same way a limit is set for alcohol.

Inspector Terry Stephen from the Roads Policing Unit says it's quite a complex area as a limit would have to be decided for the different illegal substances and prescribed drugs would have to be looked at too.

He says they'll look at the outcome of the UK study before deciding if a change in legislation is appropriate for the Island.

Inspector Stephen says there are already laws in place here to tackle drug-driving.[Play media file below]
