Police dog breeding programme is a success

Thu, 05 Jan 2012

There are eight new additions to the Isle of Man Constabulary.

The Police Dog Unit has successfully bred two of their working dogs, Saxon and Bodie.

It's resulted in a litter of eight German Shepherd puppies, who are now five weeks old.

One of the dogs will be kept and trained by police on the Island.

Two will go to the Cumbria Police which currently helps the Manx force with courses to train instructors.

Breeder Sergeant Ian Kelly says finding quailty animals is a challenge for all forces and in return the Island will get help in training and mutual aid.

Sergeant Kelly explains what the pups will be trained to do.[play media file below]
